The Language of Bees

It all began when I was just a little kid. I was about 7 years old and my mom bought me an English magazine with an audio cassette. Mommy was glad that I had shown some interest in a foreign language. But the thing that always sticks in my mind is a song that goes like this:

"Mr. Cat is very fat, very fat, very fat. Mr. Cat!"

I think that hearing this audiotape was my very first experience with the English language. By the time I was a student at my first basic school, I remember that I had to choose what language I want to learn. I had two options: English or German. I did not know what English stands for back then. So I asked my colleague this exact question:

"And where in this list is the language spoken by Americans?"

She had to tell me that English is the language I was looking for. I think it is quite obvious that I opted for English.  When I reminisce about my younger days, I have always wanted to learn the language of kings. But I just could not "learn" English at school. Unfortunately for me, nearly everybody had signed up for the English classes and just a few for the German. Aber da kann man nichts machen.
