No Marching. The Saints Will Never Come.

I really don't know where the zombie fascination comes from. Some say that it's given by our survival instincts and mentality which we inherited by our ancestors affected by the two world wars. This idea is certainly intriguing: Blood spattered and gruesome looking zombies as a cultural image and a still living reflection of the horrifying witness of our predecessors. I was highly attracted by all this at a very young age in the turn of the 21st century and that's why I am completely able to fathom this skyrocketing obsession and need of fictionalizing the total annihilation of the human race.

And at long last, that's exactly why the AMC's tedious soap called The Walking Dead dramatically increases in its fanbase as well as in pop culture circles.

Yeah, Science, biatch!

Ehm. Argh. Bits and pieces from the recent OJA2 lessons. Haha. From the 1960's to the 1970's the public interest in zombies fluctuated mildly mainly because of the prolific movie industry embodied in Hollywood. From the 1970's to the 1980's the interest increased slightly. The 90's experienced a huge zombie boom and the interest rose dramatically which stemmed from worldwide success of the Resident Evil series. Due to these facts it is more than apparent that the genre of zombie apocalypse has now two chapters: Before Resident Evil and after Resident Evil. From the 90's to these days the interest has not reached its spike yet.

  2. Zombies. Eh. It seems to me that we both chose very interesting topics. I mean, you know, really serious issues.. :D your article is written in a good way. How couldn´t it be when you followed the OJA2 guideline.. :D I like especially that huge increase in 1990's. Thanks to the movie industry. If it hadn't been for it's work, people would have never understood that zombie sanity.. :D

  3. I liked the comment: before Resident Evil and after :D I am a bigger fan of vampires than zombies, but I have seen Resident Evil and it´s many weird continuations... and I agree with you, before this movie there wasn´t many discussions about zombies.
Don´t know if it´s good or bad, because I don´t really think Resident Evil is the best movie ever, so... :D
I am now in a stage becoming a zombie because of a college, so who am I to judge... :D

  4. I am glad that you enjoyed the line "before Resident Evil and after" that much. :) Resident Evil is originally a video game, those movies are just its adaptations. But then again, RE movies are like the Vampire Diaries: Their respective writers just don't know what they are doing. Anyway, thanks for your comment, sweet pea.

  5. I feel completely lost while reading your post. I realized that I have no interest in zombies, vampires, etc., probably I'm very old-fashion :-D but when I was reading your comment on the graph, I must say that your writing skills are really admiring! I can't say much about the content because I'm not a zombie expert, but I clearly see that you really enjoy our OJA2 lessons, and from your detailed description I understood everything :-D

  6. Just exactly for how long have you been writing that paragraph describing the line development ? Because I don't belive you knew all these words right on the spot :D Even if I tried to 'shoot from the belt' as we say I wouldn't hit even half of these :D If you did though, that is a different issue and you have my respect. You also deserve the OJA credits right now because I don't belive I will ever have this know how. Anywaay.... Great topic, love zombies and keep up the good work! ( PS: watch out for the college zombies, I've seen a few already)

    1. I may be swayed by mere flattery here, but the last paragraph was nothing... The first one took like 2 hours of my life. Just to find an appropriate topic for the content of this blog required full concentration. Haha. And I don't know which words do you have in mind, but I believe you just underestimate yourself. Thank you for your positive feedback.
